Target Group
This course is for all those with the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). All schools and educational establishments assign a member of the school’s leadership team to be their DSL to take lead responsibility for dealing with safeguarding issues. The DfE strongly recommended that a deputy DSL is also trained to act in the absence of the lead DSL and support her/him.

The main responsibilities of the DSL are:
To promote positive safeguarding procedures and practices.
To refer cases of suspected abuse or allegations to the relevant investigating agencies.
To act as a source of support, advice and expertise within the educational establishment, liaising with relevant agencies.
To prepare reports including timetables of staff training, policy reviews, referrals and on-going investigations.

Course Description
This course will help you and your staff become familiar with the role and responsibilities of the DSL in a school or further education college.
This is an advanced course designed for those who have some previous child protection training. This course should be taken every two years. If the DSL has never taken the Level 3 course before, or it has been more than two years since they last took the course, it is recommended they take the two-day intensive course. For those renewing their training after two years then the one-day refresher course will be sufficient. All course materials are included.
